Georges Sotiropoulos vs. Joe Lauzon Results - Sotiropolous Defeats Lauzon By Kimura

The last time fans saw Joe Lauzon fight, he absolutely destroyed Gabe Ruediger on the undercard of an event that will always be remembered for Randy Couture's destruction of boxing champion James Toney.? That said, coming into their UFC 123 match up, George?Sotiropoulos was riding a two fight winning streak and feeling pretty good about it.?

In other words, it was a huge fight for two guys that were riding high.? And here's how it went down.

Lots of punching early on by both fighters, with Lauzon gaining a mild advantage due to some crisp right hands.? When?the Bostonian?came forward aggressively after nearly one minute had gone by,?Sotiropoulos went for a takedown unsuccessfully.? Lauzon then came forward aggressively again, this time connecting with strikes.? Along the way, the Aussie continued to try and counter with takedowns, but all that led to was a lot of Lauzon standing elbows.? After a rather uneventful period of time, Lauzon found himself on top of an opponent that was all too willing to go to the ground with him.? Several position changes ultimately resulted in Lauzon taking the top.? However,?Sotiropoulos turned things over on him and then took his back, before transitioning to side control.? Mild ground and pound led to a try at an armbar that failed, allowing Lauzon to take the top position and deliver some nice ground and pound of his own before the bell.

Good round.? Award it to Lauzon based on his superior striking and aggressiveness.

Sotiropoulos?started the second throwing punches to some avail.? Then the Australian fighter looked for another takedown unsuccessfully.? Upon separation,?Sotiropoulos really began teeing off, including some nice knees inside.? Then came a takedown by the Aussie, followed by him accessing the north-south position.??Sotiropoulos looked to transition to an armbar, realized it wasn't going to work, and took the north-south position again.? Then came a kimura attempt that came through for the Australian.? And that was that.

George Sotiropoulos defeats Joe Lauzon by kimura at 2:43 of round two.
